여름에 듣기 좋은 재즈 곡 추천

 

이전의 포스팅 "여름에 듣기 좋은 재즈 곡 추천"에 이어서

이번에는 여름에 듣기 좋은 락 Rock을 추천해보겠습니다.

 

재즈 같은 경우에는 노래와 가사가 없는 연주곡들이 많아서

제목에 직접적으로 여름과 관련된 단어가 들어가 있어야 추천을 할 수가 있었는데,

락 Rock이라는 장르로 여름에 어울리는 곡을 찾자면 정말 셀 수도 없고, 끝도 없이 너무 많습니다.

 

하지만 이번 포스팅에서 제가 추천드리는 곡들은

제목이나 가사 내용이 여름과 관련된 곡들 보다는

앨범이 발매된 시기와 곡의 분위기 위주로 골라보겠습니다.

이 곡을 또 소개해야 하나 고민 좀 했습니다.

 

일렉기타, 무거운 것이 좋은가? (feat. 레스폴 vs 스트라토 캐스터)

예전의 이 포스팅에서 이미 건스 앤 로지스 Guns N' Roses 의 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE을 소개한 적도 있었고,

 

건스 앤 로지스 - SWEET CHILD O' MINE ＆ 박기영 - Blue Sky

표절곡 시리즈를 포스팅할 때에도 건스 앤 로지스의 곡을 소개한 적이 있어서,

같은 밴드만 여러 번 중복해서 소개하는 거 아닌가 싶었지만..

그래도 역시 락음악을 논할 때 빼놓을 수 없는 락밴드고, 빼놓을 수 없는 음악이라고 생각해서 소개합니다.

 

고등학교 2학년 때 건스 앤 로지스의 첫 앨범, APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION를 구매하고

첫 번째 트랙인 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE을 들었을 때의 그 충격이란..

SWEET CHILD O' MINE이라는 곡 때문에 구입한 앨범이었는데,

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE을 포함해 다른 좋은 곡들도 너무 많았던 앨범이었습니다.

 

코로나 바이러스 때문에 10주년을 앞두고 아쉽게 방송 종료된 프로그램인

'정글의 법칙'의 테마곡으로 쓰이기도 해서 많은 분들에게 친숙한 곡이기도 합니다.

 

가사의 내용 자체는 '진짜 정글'이나 여름과는 관계가 없지만,

주로 더운 나라에 가서 시원한 복장으로 촬영을 했던 '정글의 법칙'의 테마곡이기도 했던 점과,

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE이 수록된 APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION이라는 앨범이 7월에 발매가 되었다는 점,

그리고 시원시원한 연주와 신나는 곡 분위기 때문에 여름에 어울린다고 생각해서 추천해봅니다.

캐나다의 뮤지션이자 작곡가, 레코드 프로듀서, 그리고 배우,

한마디로 만능 엔터테이너인 앨라니스 모리셋 Alanis Morissette의 You Oughta Know입니다.

 

제가 고등학교 3학년 때에 어느 한 음악카페에서 처음 듣게 되었고,

그 후로 정말 자주 들었던 곡이었습니다.

 

이 곡이 수록된 앨범 Jagged Little Pill은 앨라니스 모리셋의 세 번째 앨범이었지만,

앞의 두 앨범은 캐나다 내에서만 발매를 했었기 때문에

국제적으로는 첫 데뷔 앨범인 거나 마찬가지인 앨범이었습니다.

 

그런데도 이 앨범은 13개국에서 차트 1위를 차지했고,

전 세계적으로 3,300만 장 이상의 판매고를 올려,

역사상 가장 많이 팔린 앨범의 순위권에 들어가는 앨범 중에 하나가 되었습니다.

 

이 곡 역시 제목이나 가사 내용은 여름과는 직접적인 연관은 없지만,

앨범도 6월에 발매가 되었고,

시원시원한 곡 분위기와 앨라니스 모리셋의 목소리 때문에 추천을 해봅니다.

드디어 제목에 여름이라는 단어가 들어가는 곡입니다.

인큐버스 incubus의 1997년에 발매된 앨범 S.C.I.E.N.C.E.의 9번째 트랙,

SUMMER ROMANCE (ANTI-GRAVITY LOVE SONG)입니다.

 

이 곡도 역시 마찬가지로 필자가 고3이었을 때 처음 접했던 곡으로,

늦은 밤에 이어폰을 꽂고 이 곡을 들으며 걸었던 길이 지금도 생각나네요.

 

인큐버스의 곡들 중에서 얌전한(?) 편에 속하는 곡으로,

인큐버스의 강한 음악을 들어보고 싶다면,

밴드 헤드 피.이. (hed) P.E. 또는 (həd) PLANET EARTH로 표기

2000년 8월에 발매한 앨범 Broke의 네 번째 트랙, BARTENDER입니다.

필자 미스티가 이런 무거운 분위기의 '하드락', '뉴메탈'의 곡을 주로 카피하는 밴드를 하던 시절에

연주해본 적이 있었던 곡입니다.

 

안그래도 국내에서는 그렇게 대중적이지는 않은 락 Rock이라는 장르의 음악 중에서도

더더욱 대중적이지 못한 하드락, 메탈이라는 장르의 곡이지만,

이런 장르 한곡쯤은 빠져서는 안 된다는 생각에 넣어보았습니다.

 

가사를 보면 아시겠지만, 비속어들이 많습니다.

원곡으로는 가사의 비속어를 그대로 들어볼 수 있지만,

뮤직비디오에서는 비속어들이 다른 가사로 바뀌어 있습니다.

필자 미스티는 개인적으로 '여름에 어울리는 락밴드'라고 하면 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스가 떠오릅니다.

상의를 시원하게 벗고 공연하는 라이브 영상과 그런 뮤직비디오들이 많은 덕분인 것 같습니다.

거기만 가린 채 완전 나체로 공연을 하는 컬처쇼크를 안겨준 라이브 영상도 한몫했던 것 같고요.

 

다섯 번째로 제가 소개하는 곡은 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스 RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS의

2002년 7월에 발매된 앨범 By the Way의 두 번째 트랙인 UNIVERSALLY SPEAKING입니다.

 

이 앨범 안에는 BY the WAY나 CAN'T STOP 같은 더더욱 유명한 곡도 있지만,

록 음악에 조금만 관심이 있다면 누구나 다 알만한 유명한 곡들이기 때문에

레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스의 곡 중에서 비교적 덜 알려진 이곡을 추천해봅니다.

 

누구나 다 알만한 유명한 곡을 소개하는 것은 WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE과

You Oughta Know를 소개한 것으로 족하다고 생각했습니다.

푸 파이터스 FOO FIGHTERS의 2005년 6월에 발매된 앨범 IN YOUR HONOR의 두 번째 트랙, No Way Back입니다.

운전하면서 들으면 마구 달리고 싶은 충동이 생길지도 모르는 곡이니 주의해주세요.

 

푸 파이터스에서 보컬을 맡으며 기타를 치는 데이브 그롤 David Grohl이

원래는 그 유명한 너바나 NIRVANA의 드러머였다는 사실은 알만한 분들은 다 아는 사실이죠.

 

얼터너티브 록 Alternative rock의 대표적인 밴드 중 하나인 너바나는

커트 코베인 Kurt Cobain의 죽음 이후에 해체되었지만

데이브 그롤이 그 후로 푸 파이터스를 결성,

푸 파이터스도 '얼터너티브 록'하면 빼놓을 수 없는 밴드가 되었습니다.
